Once I purchased a vehicle I don’t think a manufacturer has the right to tell me what kind of oil I must use, maintenance items I must use… and to force me to only be able to get my car repaired by the dealer! Private repair shop must have access to information on these cars to repair them! Not passing this law will let manufacturers take even more money from you that currently is at a exhorbanant amount, pricing for new cars is already ridiculous! And we don’t need repair cost are out of control because of manufacturer wanting to monopolize repairs,by not sharing technology information for reproduction of replacement parts. This is nothing new! As many manufacturers try stop information from being supplied to the aftermarket, again forcing a monopoly of repair parts and repair facilities. Passing of this kind of law also makes performance parts available… with out this kind of law being passed your ability to purchase third party racing and performance parts would be practically reduced to no parts, or for any manufacturer wanting to develop any of these kind of parts. This would essentially eliminate automotive sports of most any type… l do believe our government has a history of butting in sometimes were they probably don’t need to be, stopping the manufacture from monopolies on parts and repair must be something that must be controlled! As car prices and repair prices cannot be allowed to run rampant.fair market prices can only be justified if the manufacturer has guidelines to follow, as they have proven they will allow greed to drive their business model. There Is nothing wrong with making a fair profit, but today’s companies are not profit driven… they are greed driven which is currently causing the inflationary prices we are facing today! When manufacturers stop overcharging, the Government most likely will back off on involvement in passing legislation to control this kind of greed that causes this kind of legislation, that’s being implemented.

These things are not complex and they are already in about 20% of vehicles anyway. They are in dam near 100% of all people who use to be in prison for drug related crimes vehicles. These things are easy to put into vehicles and well car manufacturers already have the systems set up. Its not crazy its not tin foil hat. This will not just save lives its actually beyond good. This function will also tell if an old person is driving wrongly and will stop them from killing people. This function is beyond good. its not a violation of any federal law. In reality this law has already been in effect for half a century if not more its just now being enforced.

Ok 1st off the only way it prevents even one death is if the drunk drivers all buy the new car... chance are many who have driven drunk & continue to do so won't buy new cars... Then there I s the issue with the effectiveness of sensors in multiple places in the car... As a non drinker I am often a designated driver... if I have 3 or 4 drunk people in my car the sensos will think I am drunk... This is as bad as thinking that taxing & punishing law abiding gun owners will stop criminals from obtaining & using guns... it is tyranny and a way they will use to control & punish people who they see as a threat to their power...

Lawmakers, especially current republican ones, have no idea of what they're doing (most ineffective congress in our or our parents' lifetimes) when it comes to governing the country and you think they're capable of deciding tolerances and safety standards when it comes to things like the environment? We rely on agencies like the FDA, EPA and FCC to regulate based on the opinions of the experts within their ranks. I've literally seen a congressman (maybe a senator) suggest to just "re-implant" an ectopic pregnancy in order to not have to abort the fetus. THOSE are the people you think should be telling us how many ppm of pollutants should be in our air or food?

Mad is a terrible organization. So many pd have arrested drivers who are not drunk, because they get money or equipment from mad. However, I think having alcohol detection systems in cars is a good IDEA. However it needs to work 100 percent of the time. Also I wonder what the unintended consequences are? Good ideas can have terrible results. The idea itself is good. I like it.
